Howard Griffith, 78, state treasurer of the POS of A Lodge died suddenly at 6:30 o'clock Sunday night a this home, 112 E. Jefferson Street. Mr. Griffith's death was attributed to a heart attack. The deceased had been an active member of Washington Camp No 6, Patriotic Order of Sons of America for more than 5 decades and had been treasurer of the local camp nearly 50 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Order and Methodist Church. Born 79 years ago this coming December, Mr. Griffith was the son of EC and Mary Jane Griffith. He never married. The deceased was associated with the First National Bank here 30 years, having served that institution as assistant cashier. After leaving the bank, Mr. Griffith was employed by the Johnson Manufacturing Company here until his health forced his retirement nearly a year ago. Survivors include a sister, Miss Birdie Griffith and cousin, Dr. J.B. Griffith both of this city. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Griffith residence in charge of Dr. Claude M. McClure, pastor of the Methodist Church.
